The installation process
Built from
the ground up.
The typical sequence for a full residential installation, and what each stage is for. Every site is different, so the stages marked site-dependent change with the ground you’re starting from.

Existing site Existing site & planning
We look at the starting condition, how the area will be used, access for tools and materials, and what preparation the ground needs. This is also when product choice is discussed: foot traffic, pets, heat and appearance all matter.
-
Excavation Site-dependentExcavation & removal
Existing grass, soil or old surfaces are removed to make room for a proper base. How much comes out, and whether disposal is included, depends on the site and is set out in your quote.
-
Compacted base Site-dependentBase construction
Base material is placed, levelled to set-out lines and compacted. Falls and drainage are considered for the site, because the finished turf will only ever be as flat and free-draining as what’s beneath it.
-
Edging & perimeter
Boundaries and transitions are prepared so the turf has something solid to finish against, whether that’s a path, wall, garden bed or a new edge.
-
Layout & fitting Turf layout & joining
Rolls are laid out with the pile running one way, then cut and fitted. Where joins are needed, seams are placed with sight lines and traffic in mind so they don’t draw the eye.
-
Infill Fixing & finishing
The turf is fixed using a method suited to the edge and base, then infill is spread and brushed in. The amount depends on the product and how the area will be used.
-
Completed Completed result & care
A final groom brings the pile up, the site is cleaned off and every edge is checked. We’ll talk you through simple care: regular brushing, clearing leaves and debris, and rinsing pet areas.

Not every job starts with soil
Different ground,
different method.
Not every installation needs excavation or the same base. Your quote describes the work your site actually needs.
Terraces & balconies
Built over existing structures, where drainage paths, weight and fixing methods need different thinking from a lawn on soil.
Courts & sports areas
Line work, levels and surface performance come first. Requirements vary with the sport and how the surface will be used.
Over existing hard surfaces
Concrete and pavers can sometimes be covered directly, depending on their condition and how water drains off them.
Repairs & existing turf
Lifting seams, worn areas and low infill can often be fixed without starting again.
